Nitrous Oxide Sedation

Some patients find themselves very anxious when it comes time for them to visit the dentist. We realize that sometimes it is not easy to sit in a chair and open wide while we work to make your smile the brightest it can be. That is why we use nitrous oxide sedation, to help our patients feel at ease and relax as we care for their teeth.

Nitrous oxide is a safe and effective sedative agent that is more commonly known as “laughing gas.” The sedative is mixed with oxygen and inhaled through a small mask that fits over your nose and allows you to breathe normally. Within a few minutes of wearing the mask you should begin feeling the effects of the nitrous oxide; it is not intended to put you to sleep. It is meant to calm you and make you feel comfortable during dental procedures. During the time you’re exposed to this gas, you will still be able to hear and respond to the commands given to you.
